Cattle calving date calculator

Estimate when a cow or heifer may calve from an AI breeding date or a bull exposure period. No account is needed to calculate an estimate.

Estimate uses 283 days of gestation. Dates are calculated on the calendar, so your time zone will not shift the result.

How to calculate a cow’s due date

The Chute™ uses a 283-day gestation estimate, a commonly used planning figure for cattle. Enter the date of artificial insemination (AI), or the first and last dates a bull had access to the cow. The result is an estimate for planning, not a confirmed pregnancy or a guaranteed calving date.

For artificial insemination

Add 283 days to the AI date for an expected calving date. The planning window shown includes seven days on either side of that date.

For bull exposure

Add 283 days to both the start and end of exposure. Because conception may have happened on any day in that period, the estimate is a date range.

Gestation length varies among animals and herds. Nebraska Extension notes that 279–287 days is a common range; use your veterinarian’s advice and pregnancy-check results when making herd decisions.

Cattle calving date calculator questions

How many days is a cow pregnant?

A common cattle planning estimate is 283 days, but actual gestation varies. Breed, calf sex, sire, and individual animal differences can affect the date.

How do I estimate a calving date after AI?

Enter the AI date above. This calculator adds 283 days and shows a seven-day planning window before and after the estimated date.

How do I estimate a calving range after bull exposure?

Enter the first and last dates the bull had access. The calculator adds 283 days to both dates to estimate the earliest and latest expected calving dates.

Is this calving date guaranteed?

No. It is a calendar estimate based on the dates entered and a standard gestation figure. Use pregnancy checks and your veterinarian’s guidance to assess an individual cow.
